The results of two recent surveys:
Louisiana has a higher incarceration rate than any other state, according to a new Pew survey. One out of every 55 Louisiana residents is behind bars, and if you count probation and parole, one of every 26 adults is under the control of the Department of Corrections.
According to an annual survey of its readers by Overdrive magazine, which caters to over-the-road truck drivers, the country's absolute worst highway is Interstate 10 in Louisiana. Truckers surveyed cited rough pavement, poor signage, and "dramatically uneven" concrete slabs as their chief gripes.
The first one is out of latest issue of The Week. The second one I read in Parade magazine at Grandma's house last Sunday. Number 5 on the list was "all roads in Michigan," so my aunt said, "Well, at least we're not in Michigan." The people in Michigan probably said the same thing about Louisiana.
Sometimes things just work out.
Feb. 14th, 2009 11:29 pmI haven't posted in a while, but I haven't had much to say. No news is good news, I guess. I was off today, but I've spent my time being lazy and making LiveJournal icons, rather than being productive like I was last weekend.
Mom and Adam are back in town for a few days, and tonight Athena and I went over to Mom's house for dinner. I actually didn't have a crappy time, much to my own surprise.
I've never been a fan of country music, which is usually a point of contention between me and Sara when we're in the truck together, but the other day I happened to hear a song that might have put me off the stuff forever. It was called "Some Beach" (and yes, that's the actual title) by Blake Shelton. Google the lyrics and you'll find out what I hated about it. It's too horrible to type here.
