Is there anything harder than getting out of bed on a cold, wet morning when you have a soft, warm cat curled up right next to you? No, there isn't. I was so tempted to call in with a "Tovah is too cute and the weather is too bad to come to work" day!

And now, my review for tonight's new NCIS episode:

Notes on episode 10x08 Gone

Writer: Scott Williams (Recovery)

- Lydia and Rosie flailing and screaming in the opening scene felt a bit silly and over-the-top to me, and the gang in the black van showed up almost as randomly as those ninjas at the beginning of Shell Shock: Part 1. I think this scene would've been better if it had been more dramatic, like showing the bad guys stalking the girls.

+ Tony referencing When Harry Met Sally. I love that movie! And I lol'ed when he started singing the “Laverne and Shirley” theme song.

- “Are we going down this road again?” Yes, Ziva, apparently that's the only road the writers know how to take anymore. I get that Tony is nosy with all his coworkers, but him trying to get details on Ziva's plans with a mystery man, soon so after the exact same thing happened last week in Shell Shock: Part 2, felt really tired to me. Ugh.

- Martin getting all up in Lydia's face and shouting at her – geez, what a jerk.

- Would Vance really order the rest of the NCIS teams to drop whatever cases they were working on and join in the search for Rosie? It felt pretty implausible to me.

+/- Ziva offering to let Lydia stay with her felt kinda out-of-character, but for the most part, it played out well. I did enjoy most of the scenes of Ziva and Abby together; so much of Abby's interaction is only with Gibbs, so it was nice to see her with another teammate – and out of the lab.

+ Ducky's firefighter metaphor to Gibbs – that duck is very wise, and God loves him for it!

- Abby referring to the bullet as “a little metal thingy” to Lydia made me roll my eyes. Come on, Abby, she's not stupid.

- When Rosie was finally able to sneak a cell phone from her abductors, why did she try contacting Lydia? Why not her parents or the police?

+ I loved the scene of Tony and Ducky in autopsy.

+ Gibbs referring to Pennybaker as “a creature of habit” made me lol. Yeah, you have room to talk there, Gibbs! His old friend Miranda “Penn” Pennybaker is largely absent from my notes because I wasn't sure how I felt about her; I didn't hate her (and she was certainly a step up from that insufferable Samantha Ryan) but I wasn't crazy over her, either. Hmm.

+ Tony trying to imiate Ducky's accent and Ducky head-smacking him for it! Hahaha!

+/- I feel like Ziva should've reacted faster during the blackout at Gibbs's house, but I did like how she and Abby took Fred down together. I lol'ed when Abby whacked him with the frying pan and said, “I know it's a little cliche.”

+ How Ziva asked Gibbs “Permission to hit him again?” when Fred said that the guy who bought Rosie liked virgins, and Gibbs had to hold her back.

+ Abby trying to comfort Lydia by giving her Bert the Hippo. It was cute, but I suspect Lydia was secretly wondering when the heck her mom would show up and take her away from this crazy goth scientist. The girl playing Lydia was a very good young actress.

- Abby's “We may not be related, but we can relate” line felt a bit silly to me, though.

+ Tony and Ziva's expressions when Penn said that she had been waiting for Gibbs for twenty years. Also, could anyone figure out what Tony mouthed to McGee there?

+ Hey, is that a new NCIS sign outside the Navy Yard? They must've gotten a new one after the explosion in Till Death Do Us Part.

+/- The twist involving Shmeil at the end. I think we all saw it coming. Last week, Ziva's “mystery man” turned out to be nonexistent, and this week, he turned out to be old enough to be her grandfather. But damn, how smokin' did Cote de Pablo look in that evening wear? I couldn't hate the scene, solely for that reason. (Damn, I hope the writers don't make this a weekly thing, though!) Shmeil having met Tony's dad and inviting Tony to come along with him and Ziva were nice touches, too.

+ NB: Shmeil is apparently a shortened form of the Hebrew name Ishmael. Its meaning is sometimes mistranslated as “His name is God,” but it probably actually means “God hears.” The same mistake happens a lot with the name Samuel – Hebrew Shemuel – which means “God has heard.” The words for hear and name are very similar in Hebrew.)

In other news, I might not celebrate Christmas anymore, but I still love certain Christmas movies. The original 1947 Miracle on 34th Street has always been one of my favorites, and tomorrow, Sara and I are going to see it in the movie theater! "You were right, Mommy! Mr. Kringle is Santa Claus!"

9 DAYS LEFT until Rebecca has to be the lay leader! Oh noes!
