I somehow managed to catch a cold over the weekend, so for the last few days, I've been sick and sniffling. Yesterday I blew my nose so hard, I saw actually stars. So I've been trying to drink and sleep more to get over it. I also bought some cold medicine and (finally) got my asthma medication refilled. A cold front blew in on Friday night -- I remember because I was shivering in the Chinese restaurant parking lot -- so I've also been wheezing more lately. Ugh! I hate being sick, and I'm SO not ready for cold weather yet. But at least I seem to be feeling better today than I did yesterday.

On Monday morning, I had to wake up early to drive to the animal shelter (which is waaay out in the middle of nowhere!) with the stray cat who showed up at our apartment. I'm praying that she gets adopted into a good home, because I really cannot stand the thought of her being euthanized. She was so calm and sweet.

Fortunately, today I got a little pick-me-up -- a new episode of NCIS featuring everybody's favorite father, Jackson Gibbs!

Notes on episode 10x05 The Namesake
Featuring Jackson Gibbs, last glimpsed in Life Before His Eyes

Writers: George Schenck & Frank Cardea (Playing With Fire)

- What irresponsible driving in that opening scene. I do not approve!

- I eww'ed at the pawn shop owner gushing on and on about the medal of honor. Geez, you would think she masturbated with it at night. Oh, no...

- Gibbs: "Did he mention what he needed the money for?" Sara: "He's addicted to crack! No, he's spending it all on hookers!"

+ It was nice to see Tony with Gibbs at the pawn shop, and McGee with Tony at the hotel. McGee seems to get out of the Navy Yard less and less these days, and you know other writers would've had Ziva accompany Tony to the hotel (and possibly drop some Tiva ship-tease).

+ Ziva: "It is three in the afternoon and we just woke you up. Do your parents know what they're paying for?" Haha!

+ Jackson: "It's not Sunday. What's wrong?" I did like the mention that apparently Gibbs calls his dad every Sunday.

- Jackson: "Never mention his name again!" Uh, hello, his name is also your son's name! I'm usually so happy to see Jackson, but his behavior in this episode really rubbed me the wrong way. He acted very selfish and immature (slamming the phone down on Gibbs, breaking his coffee cup) and it didn't fit in at all with how we've seen his character so far. Ugh!

+ Abby: "He has Justin Bieber on his hard drive. Can't you arrest him for that?" Ha!

+ Gibbs leaving that "brazen" message on Gibbs's answering machine and calling his dad out for his childish behavior. Jackson needed to hear that.

- LJ's stupid ho-ho-ho laugh when he recognized Gibbs. But then, I'm prejudiced; Billy Dee Williams has always annoyed me.

- Chaya hitting on Abby. Ugh, what a perv. Sara: "Well, what do you expect when you wear such slutty-looking tights?" The little red bows did seem kinda hooker-ish to me.

- Jackson finally telling Gibbs why he and LJ fell out -- LJ didn't warn Jackson that his wife (Ann, Gibbs's mother, whom we met via flashback in Life Before His Eyes) was planning to overdose and kill herself; Jackson had wanted his dying wife to linger and suffer agonizing pain so he could have every minute possible with her. Geez, selfish much, Jackson?

+ NB: I had guessed from what Ann said in Life Before His Eyes that she and Jackson separated before she died, but looking back, I can see how I misinterpreted that.

- LJ: "I was very close with both your parents." Sara: "Talkin' 'bout threesomes!"

- So LJ was secretly (or not-so-secretly?) in love with Gibbs's mother for years? Oh, the cheesiness.

+ I loved the guys squabbling over Chinese food in the bullpen, and Ziva trying to break them up.

- Gibbs: "We all loved the same woman." Yeah, but when you say it like that, it just sounds weird.

+ I saw the roommate twist coming, but not the twist that Dell was really trying to kill Chaya. Nice.

+ For the most part, I wasn't a fan of the Jackson/LJ subplot, but I did appreciate that it was separate from the case and that neither one of them was a suspect. (Aren't we all tired of seeing relatives as suspects on this show?) Their goodbye scene outside LJ's retirement home was nice, and so was the dedication to the Montford Point Marines, who were recently honored with Congressional Medals of Honor.

The dedication made me aww. I can't believe they didn't get their medals until 'til.

I too am glad that Jackson/LJ weren't suspects.

Sara's commentaries are awesome. Spot on.

Yes. Yes, they are.

Also, I didn't her tights were slutty, I said she was dressing like a trollop.

"We all loved the same woman."

Hopefully not in the Biblical sense.

Hehe.

They were cute, in a Halloween costume sort of way.

Haha. It's Pennsylvania not the deep south.
