rebecca_in_blueHow much I love new NCIS episodes is how much I imagine Tovah hates them. Because whenever I watch one, I sit in the rocking chair in front of the TV. We usually sit on the couch when watching TV, and NCIS is pretty much the only time I sit in that chair, which Tovah has claimed as her own. Tonight, as soon as the episode was over and I got up, she immediately hopped in the chair, laid down, and glared at me. Aww.
Anyway, my notes are below. Borin's episodes are always fun!
Notes on episode 10x04 Lost at Sea
#4 with Abby Borin, last seen in Safe Harbor
Writer: Christopher J. Waild (Rekindled)
- Such an odd opening scene at the little mom-and-pop store. And wow, that is one thirsty Marine.
+ The bullpen scene wasn't great (and the "horse whisper" Ziva-ism made me roll my eyes) but it was fun wondering what Tony and McGee really did last night. Bonus points for that patterned shirt on Tony!
- Ziva tricking Tony into trying to get a date with Borin felt kinda weird to me. Borin's first two episodes (Jurisdiction and Ships in the Night) focused more on her rapport with Gibbs, which I preferred because I think they're funny together. Her second two (Safe Harbor and this one) are more about her and Tony, and too often, the writers make Tony look stupid to get laughs.
+/- Ziva volunteering Tony and McGee to help Borin with debris pick-up felt kinda mean, but hey, they did the same thing to her back in Broken Arrow. And I lol'ed at Tony's bashful grin when he said, "You knew my size." What a perfect delivery!
+ I loved Gibbs and Ducky's scene in the hospital waiting room! Especially Ducky's lines about his "clandestine mission" and "covert prowess." God loves that duck! It did bother me a bit how Gibbs slipped past the hospital security, but we all know what disregard Gibbs has for any rules that aren't his.
- What the... did Gibbs just help Joplin pull up the zipper on his pants? *rewind* Okay, no, he helped him button up his shirt. Either way, that was kinda weird.
+ McGee: "Gibbs is independent, loyal, sometimes even caring." Tony: "Have you told the boss about these feelings?" LOL! It was so nice to see a scene with the guys together like this, and to see McGee out of the bullpen. I loved the Tony/McGee interaction throughout.
- I could tell Quinn was in on it from his first scene, and when Rebecca could spot it, you know it had to be very obvious.
- Geez, look at Tony and McGee stumbling across Happ's body on the beach. Not a part of his body, but the whole thing. Not underwater or covered in seawater, but floating right there on the surface. Um, how did someone not see this sooner?
+ Tony opining that he didn't ask Ziva out, and her answering, "You had your chance." (Did she mean a specific time during the series? And if so, when?) At first, I ugh'ed at the Tiva of it all, but looking back now, this bit seems almost anti-Tiva. Ziva is saying that Tony had his chance with her and missed it. And yet, I suspect the ship-teases will continue. Sigh...
- Happ's son is named Gunner! UGH!
- Gibbs and Ducky's scene in autopsy -- y'all all know how much I love that duck, but the lack of Palmer in this episode did bother me. Ducky just came back to work full-time in the last episode, Phoenix, after recovering from his heart attack in Till Death Do Us Part. The spoilers made it seem like he would have a smaller role and Palmer a bigger one. Now, Ducky is running the morgue again, and Palmer is gone, like nothing ever happened! Maybe I shouldn't judge just from one episode, but this did disappoint me.
+ I loved Tony encouraging McGee to ask Borin out, and I lol'ed at poor McGee when he got all nervous, especially when Gibbs walked in. I loved how Tony and Ziva both yelled "On it!" and jumped up as quick as they could, so they wouldn't have to stay and watch that train wreck. It was a great team moment.
+ Gibbs: "New tie, Leon?" Vance: "It's my wife's idea. It's supposed to lighten my mood." Lol!
+ Spark's JAG lawyer mentioning Gibbs's "unfair tactics." She obviously watches this series. Spark was way too calm and collected in interrogation, though, wasn't she? Something was so up. Her lawyer reminded me too much of Mallison Hartless.
- The entire scene with Gibbs and Happ's widow in the conference room. Holy Moses, the cheesiness.
- Tony: "I forget you're a team leader." That's because we haven't seen any of Borin's team since way back in her first episode, Jurisdiction. They were so much fun, and I wish we could see them again.
+/- I loved the scene of Tony and Borin on the beach. It showed a much deeper side of Tony that we don't see often. I was loving it, that is, right up until the Tiva anvil at the end. Ugh.
+ Loved the scene with Tony, McGee, Abby, and Borin in the lab, especially the guys convincing Borin that the case wasn't closed yet.
+ "You can wear the sunglasses for a little bit." Lol! Tony and McGee were so great in interrogation together.
- I was kinda conflicted about Ziva snooping in McGee's computer and reading his e-mails. On the one hand, the team has snooped in each other's stuff pretty constantly over the years. But it's almost always been Tony snooping on Ziva or McGee, or one of them snooping on him. Ziva and McGee have always been such friends, and I'm pretty certain she's never snooped in his stuff before. This really bothered me.
+ "How're you gonna fix it?" At first, my jaw dropped because I thought Gibbs was telling Tony to ask Ziva out. But then I realized Gibbs was telling the three of them to go do something together and get out of his hair. Whew!
Currently smelling: My lovely new pumpkin-scented candle.
Currently thinking about: What to do with "Briana" this weekend.
