I set my keyboard up in my new room, in front of the bay window -- where, thanks to fertilizer and a sunnier spot, the plant I brought home from Grandma's funeral is growing by leaps and bounds! I might have to transplant it into a bigger pot. It's so nice having enough space for my keyboard, and I hope I can start practicing again and really stick with it this time. One of my Jewish grandmothers gave me the sheet music to some songs we sing at services. I'm slowly learning "Oseh Shalom," the slow version that repeats shalom twice. (There's also a fast version that repeats oseh, a version to be sung in rounds, and about a million others.) I'm as bad at it as I ever was, but it feels good to be playing again.

I'm also still making plarn, and I've already got a pretty big ball of it under my bed. I might even buy a bigger crochet needle and try crocheting it. It's so nice having enough room for hobbies in our new place. I never realized just how cramped we were in Smallpartment.

Sara and I just watched the Season 9 finale of NCIS. Can you believe the season's over already? Overall, I really enjoyed this season's finale arc. This episode felt very solid and old-school; it was definitely way better than that awful, confusing, poorly-paced mess of Pyramid. I should rewatch this one and collect my thoughts on it, but here my initial, jumbled-up notes:

Notes for episode 9x24 Till Death Do Us Part (Season 9 Finale)

Featuring Dr. Samantha Ryan, last seen in Up in Smoke; Breena Slater, last seen in Newborn King; and Casey Stratton, last seen in Housekeeping.

Writer: Gary Glasberg (Life Before His Eyes)

- Why did Dearing bother kidnapping Vance and putting him in a coffin if he wasn't even going to kill him? How pointless. (As an aside, it reminded me of the story in the Tanakh where David has the chance to kill Saul but doesn't.)

- "I can do without the sarcasm." Ugh. I so wanted to slap Ryan across the face for this. Where does that smarmy witch get off calling Gibbs sarcastic? Hypocrite.

+ I loved Ducky announcing, "May I remind you all..." and going to lecture mode at the crime scene. Even better, the way everyone stopped what they were doing to listen to him! Who doesn't love that duck?

- Ryan quoting the Bible was a very what-the-hell moment. It felt so unrealistic that she could rattle off an obscure verse like that. Does she have the entire book memorized or something?

- Parker was one annoying, smarmy kid (we all know who he gets that from). I'm glad his scene with Gibbs was brief, but I wish we hadn't met him at all. He certainly didn't feel necessary. Sara said, "Well, that's what you get when you name a kid Parker."

+ "I think we should return the favor." I loved this line, but the downside was that Gibbs's plan didn't really pan out.

+ I loved the scene of Tony and Gibbs looking up the case file on Evan Dearing. Good interaction between the Boss and his Senior Field Agent there.

- Vance acting so pissy and petulant at Dearing for kidnapping him just made me ugh. What a big crybaby.

- Ryan named her computer and talks about it like it's a real person? That's kinda scary.

+/- I think the writers found a good way to get rid of Ryan without making her evil. But I did worry when we found out her ex-husband was in prison, especially since we didn't find out what for. We could meet her ex as a suspect on a future case, and then Ryan would rear her ugly head again. Mark Harmon really likes Jamie Lee Curtis and probably wants her to come back to the show. I have nothing against the actress, but this character -- UGH!

+ "Cheese or peanut-butter?" I loved this line. A good way to tell Vance they were setting a trap.

+ Sara laughed SO hard at the photo of Scott Wolf trying to look bad-ass in that leather jacket. (It almost made it worth having that awful Watcher Fleet storyline back.) He's the most un-threatening villain ever.

+ Such a sweet scene with the Three Musketeers giving Palmer their wedding gifts before he left for Florida. And their group hug? Awww! It was such a nice throwback to the group hug back in Swan Song. They even had the same line, "Bring it in," only this hug was better because it was under happy circumstances!

+/- Tony and Ziva talking about weddings was a bit too Tiva for me, but I did like it when she mentioned a ketubah. (I had to explain to Sara what this is.) The show has been downplaying her religion recently, and I was afraid she was going to have the whole conversation without mentioning one element of a Jewish wedding.

- We didn't even get to see Palmer's wedding! I am so disappointed.

+ Such a nice scene between Palmer and Breena. Maybe he'll make the opening credits next season?

- I did roll my eyes at how long it took McGee and Abby to evacuate the building. Tony and Ziva were getting others out, so at least they have a good excuse. But McGee seemed to be transferring files from his laptop, and Abby had to grab her purse and her hippo before she ran out of the lab! Federal agents should know better.

+ What a great cliffhanger ending! I knew the bomb at the Navy Yard was coming because it was in the promo, but the final scene with Ducky totally took me by surprise! My poor sassy Scottish grandfather. I was starting up and guessing, "Overcome with emotion? Heart attack? Stroke? Dying? No, Ducky!" Sara and I discussed it, and since David McCallum has signed a contract through Season 10, our theory is that he'll be in a hospital for one episode, then be back at work with a cane. Of course, only time will tell!

FF: I wrote a tag post this episode in Crash Landing.

So, that's the end of NCIS until September -- but not for Rebecca. I never did get around to rewatching Season 8 and writing episode notes for it. I meant to do it inbetween Season 9 episodes, but it got too confusing switching between seasons like that. So, I've decided to spend the summer tackling Season 8! It'll make waiting for September that much easier.

I'm sad we didn't get to see Palmer getting married.

I agree with you.

I really hope Ducky is okay.
