Hallelujah, today I got an e-mail from the volunteer program that I applied to work with this summer! The director said, among other things, "Mark your calendar! We'll see you in July!" I still have more paperwork to fill out, but I got in! I just hope nothing happens between now and then to mess up my trip, and I think I'll be keeping my fingers crossed until July.

In other news, onto tonight's new NCIS!

Notes on 9x22 Playing With Fire

Writers: George Schenck & Frank Cardea (Need to Know)

+ I was bored when I saw that the opening was a replay of Rekindled's ending, but then we got to see something we didn't see last week: the arsonist himself got incinerated.

+ McGee getting to investigate the crime scene on the ship by himself -- good for him! I loved it when the team told him "Bon voyage."

- Tony and Ziva's conversation in the bullpen -- ugh! I'm very tired of snoopy Tony and secretive Ziva. It's almost like the writers are physically unable to do anything else with them. "DiNozzy" made me chuckle, though.

? Was anyone else confused by Park's sudden appearance? I was like, "Who is this Asian woman and why does everyone know her? Have we met her before?" I really thought I had missed something.

- McGee getting seasick made me roll my eyes. "You're a naval criminal investigator!" Tony should be telling this to the writers, not McGee. Even if he does have a history of seasickness, it irked me that the writers would make him look stupid for cheap laughs like this.

+ I lol'ed at Johnson's wife being angry that he got blown up in the driveway and made it harder for her to sell the house.

+ "Bringing work home?" Ducky, Gibbs's work is his life. You know that. I loved the scene between them at Gibbs's house (and the appearance of Gibbs's pink floral coffee mug from The Spider and the Fly). Ducky talking about redoing his will was interesting. The writers can't kill him -- because David McCallum has re-signed a contract for next season, and because God loves a duck! -- but maybe they'll set it up to look like he might die. I think David said in an interview that the finale arc would be Ducky-heavy. Very interesting.

+ "Has Abby finalized plans for Jimmy's bachelor party?" I really cannot wait to see this! :)

+ "Toby 'No Middle Name' Abbott."

+ Ducky giving Gibbs tea leaves and a pot -- awww!

+ I'd never met Agent Burley before (his last appearance was waaay back in Season 1, and I don't watch Kate-era) but I liked him. Him talking to Gibbs after Mike died was a nice touch, and I liked Ziva being flirty with him in Naples. I got pretty upset during that moment when it looked like he died.

+ Gibbs and Tony were so bad-ass in threatening Fullerton. I love it when they work together like that.

- "He had what Yankees would call a slight southern drawl. I would know, I'm from Mississippi." Yeah? Well, I'm from Louisiana, and your accent sucks! If I ever heard a realistic southern accent on TV, I'd probably drop dead of shock.

- The final scene in the bullpen was pretty over-the-top. Did everyone in the agency really need to be standing there when Gibbs put up Dearing's picture? The show was trying too hard for drama.

On the art calendar, I'm looking at Ferme en Bretagne (Farm in Brittany), an 1894 oil painting by Paul Gauguin.

What a great way to kick off May!

I was surprised at my happiness to see Burley again. Considering he was only in one episode, I'm not particularly attached to him, but it was a lovely call-back to season 1, as was remembering Ducky's nephew. (I find this long latent period much more satisfying than when Glasberg makes up new things about the characters on the fly and then explains them only a few episodes later.)

By the way, I think you should consider watching Season 1 of NCIS. It's very different but it's also really interesting. They hadn't abandoned the Navy plot lines yet so there are a bunch of really interesting episodes where they are aboard ships or in exotic Navy bases.

I agree.

S1 is better than S2 regarding Kate, she's quite competent and less of a bitch in S1, except for 'Call of Silence' in S2, which is just perfect, and the only episode, other than 'Yankee White' where I liked Kate.

And whats the volunteer programme for?
