Sep. 27th, 2009 10:46 pmGrandma keeps asking me what kind of birthday cake I want, but I can't decide. I'll probably go with either devil's food cake with white icing, or yellow cake with chocolate icing -- Grandma believes in putting white icing on yellow cake, but chocolate icing so goes best with it -- but I can't decide which, and I don't know how I should decorate it. If anybody who reads this blog wants to get me a birthday present (and I'm really not trying to drop a hint or guilt-trip anyone by that, I'm just saying), please refer to the list in my previous entry. I keep remembering things I want and adding to it.
For some reason, our entire street lost electricity for about thirty mintues in the wee hours of this morning. It completely freaks me out when the power goes out unexpectedly. When it goes out during a hurricane or a storm, that sucks, but it doesn't freak me out. But when it goes out for no apparent reason, as it did today, that's scary. I was still awake when it went out this morning (it must have been around 2 am), enjoying my appliances, when all of a sudden I'm plunged into total darkness. My sister was asleep, but I woke her up and we read a Baby-Sitter Club book by flashlight.
I bought Sable a new type of shampoo today; it's oatmeal-based and is supposed to be better for his skin. I've been giving him about a teaspoon of the Royal Coat Express oil every other day, and it has gotten him to scratch a lot less, but it hasn't improved his fur (or rather, his lack thereof) that I can see. He certainly smells a lot better after having a bath in the oatmeal base than he did in the other shampoo I'd been using. It reminded me of how Dad used to always joke that one night we'd have "black dog gumbo" for dinner. And I forgot to mention that last week, I went to Target and bought a new bed for him (his old one was falling to pieces). He loves it so much that he now spends even more time in his bed than before, if that's possible.
