Rebecca was involved in a head-on collision on her bike today. En route to the library, I went a bit too fast around a turn where the sidewalk was bordered by high hedges, so I couldn't see what was coming. Well, it turned out to be a guy on his speeder. We both had our headphones in and couldn't even hear each other. I saw him a few seconds before he saw me, but I still had no time to turn or brake. He fell over into the hedges, but we were both okay.

The fall weather here has been so nice and cool. I biked home from the library with a good new read in my basket, cooked myself some green bean casserole for dinner, and sat down in Tovah's chair to watch a new NCIS. Last week's Recovery left a bad taste in my mouth, but tonight's episode was darn good!

Notes on episode 10x03 Phoenix
Writer: Steven D. Binder (Up in Smoke)

+ The way Ducky laughed along when the worker in the cemetery said, "I hope you haven't taken up grave-robbing" as they were exhuming the body. I could almost hear him thinking, "No, of course not, now do shut up." God loves Ducky!

- McGee's life recorder does sound scary, and Gibbs's non-existent sense of humor (I think this is what Tony was going to say before he stopped) has nothing to do with him not being allowed to wear it at work. It would be too dangerous, and there's no way the agency, let alone Gibbs, would it.

+ Ziva's blue shirt and curly hair! Gah, she looks so good, I can't... even... excuse me for a moment, please. *ahem* Okay, I'm back. It reminded me of that bright blue shirt she wore in False Witness; that color looks so good on her.

+ Palmer fussing at Ducky for exhuming a body without permission was so cute, especially when Gibbs walked in. It felt good to find out that Ducky did have a good reason for exhuming Roberts's body and hadn't lost a few marbles.

+ Gibbs: "Since when did you start reading the obits?" Ducky: "Your day will come."

- But Palmer is still acting nervous around Gibbs, after working with him for years! I am so over this, writers!

+ The Three Musketeers ganging up on Palmer at the crime scene did feel a little mean, but for the most part, I enjoyed it. It felt very old-school to me. And I loved how even though they broke it up as soon as Gibbs walked in, he still knew exactly what they were up to.

+ Abby telling Gibbs that Ducky's cold case and his "hot case" were connected; of course, but it was done well. Her sticking a lei and umbrella drink on Gibbs was very what-the-fuck, but it sure did make for a funny visual.

+ Gibbs making Ducky the lead on the case, and Ducky's big grin at that. Damn, I love that duck!

+ The Three Musketeers's what-the-fuck reactions when Gibbs told them that Ducky was the lead, especially Tony's "With very vigorous back legs... and sex life" and Ducky's "There's evil afoot." What great lines -- lol!

- Call me heartless, but Roberts's daughter blaming herself for his death made me roll my eyes. Get over it, honey.

+ I liked Ziva cautioning Ducky against promising Roberts's daughter that they would solve his case, and suggesting that she might actually be the killer. Couldn't you almost hear Ducky thinking, "That lovely girl, the killer?" So very him.

+ Gibbs calling off Ducky when he started to slip back into his old role and correct Palmer in autopsy. He made sure that Ducky let Palmer act as the lead medical examiner. It was such a great moment for all three of them!

- Tony playing with the model spaceship in Dr. Blackwell's office went on too long for me, as did Blackwell's bad jokes. Ugh.

+ I loved Ducky's presentation to the team in the bullpen. I loved seeing Ducky in Gibbs's role as team leader, and I loved the interaction between all of them. Highlights were Tony's black shirt (how hot did he look in that thing?), Gibbs holding a baseball bat (why? oh, no reason, just Gibbs chillin' at his desk, holding a baseball bat), Ziva sitting on Gibbs's desk again (which she did back in Enemy on the Hill; this episode reminded me of Enemy on the Hill in how solid and funny it was), and the way she smiled at Gibbs when he said, "Moon dirt."

+/- Ooh, look at McGee getting to go bad-ass at the shooting range! Go, McGee! Captain Sharp was a bit too much of a stereotypical sassy black woman for me, though.

+ Gibbs bringing a Caf-Pow to Abby, only to discover that Ducky has already beaten him to it! "I will find a home for that... inside myself."

+ The scene in Gibbs's basement was so good, even though Palmer going down there, Ducky lurking in the shadows, and Gibbs handing him the broom were all a bit... weird. Such a touching heart-to-heart between Gibbs and Ducky, though.

+/- The whole subplot with Del Finney as the aging rock star felt pretty silly, but for the most part, Binder made it work, just like he did with the real-life superhero group in Secrets. I loved Ducky's interrogation of Finney; that duck has serious skills -- the writers should let him out of autopsy more often! This episode had a lot of very solid lines and scenes.

+ McGee: "And I only know this because I was at a Star Trek convention in 1992, and -- " Gibbs: "Okay, McGee, I got it." Haha!

+ Gibbs: "Who was running the lab twelve years ago?" Sara: "That crazy scientist!"
