If you want to get technical, Christians appropriated a pagan holiday for Christmas, and the same with Easter. All the common symbols are pagan.
I feel the same about Christmas, ever since I started going to synagogue a few years ago. I only do it for the kids in a strange hybrid. I wasn't especially religious before that, but I too dislike the commercialism and focus on "getting, getting getting" that the entire two months of Nov and Dec have become.
