A little bit of sleep could hardly hurt Rebecca now.

I made my once-a-year trek into Target yesterday (okay, I'm exaggerating - but not much) and hallelujah, I'm finally done with my Christmas shopping! My only reservation is that my gift for Mom seems kinda... cheap, but she's never been an easy person to buy for. Adam and Sara at least don't ask for the same stuff for nearly every birthday and Christmas. I was so tired when I got home that I conked out and slept right through yesterday's new NCIS episode. The weird thing is, I dremt that I got up and went into the living room to watch it (I have a lot of very literal dreams - they get annoying) and what was happening on the show happened to be the fanfic I'm currently writing.

Today Sara and I went out to lunch with Mom and got a little cup of the trail mix Athena went crazy for. Her family is going up to Little Rock this weekend to visit her, and I was planning to send it with them as her Christmas present. Then, lo and behold, I discovered that they're leaving bright and early tomorrow morning! So I will be getting out of bed very early to drop it off with them before they leave. Ugh! Athena so owes me for this.

Tonight I spent the evening at Mom's house, making bacon & eggs, wrapping my Christmas gifts, and watching Star Trek. We saw the episode The Most Toys, and it was darn good. I kept shouting things at the TV: "You messed with the wrong sentient android, buster!" "Data is not an it!" "Go, Data! Kick his ass!" I've tried watching episodes online, but I can't really watch it by myself because 1) I don't have anyone to explain it to me, and 2) I don't have anyone to make comments like, "Is Data the sweet invention of a scientist's dream? Or is he really as sentient as he seems?" And now, onto my NCIS notes.

Notes on episode 10x10 You Better Watch Out
Featuring DiNozzo Sr., last seen in Sins of the Father

Writers: George Schenck & Frank Cardea (The Namesake)

- Is Navy base housing really that nice? Huffner's two-story was very high-end.

- Come on, writers, can't Tony get it together? He's a good agent, and I don't think he should get distracted during a presentation like this.

- Ziva: “You did not tell us your father was coming to town.” Tony: “I didn't think it was really gonna happen.” And boy, do I know how that feels, Tony. If I had a dollar for every time a family member has made plans with me, only to cancel at the last minute, I'd be one rich Jew. But now I'm just being silly. Whoever heard of a rich Jew?

- I always find the techno remixes of Christmas carols played in Abby's lab in Christmas episodes insufferable. And her Christmas countdown seemed very childish to me. I mean, I could understand a countdown to the release of Les Miserables, but Christmas? How old are you, Abby? Six? Do you still leave milk and cookies out for Santa? Okay, I'll stop now. Abby can kinda grate on my nerves sometimes, and I get carried away.

? Palmer talked about Abby's Christmas village like it was a tradition. But we've never seen it before, have we?

- More very obvious product placement with the financier's tablet. I guess I better get used to it.

+ Tony: “You'd get a big headslap in our building for that.” I loved the killer glare Gibbs gave him there.

+ I like that Tony refers to his dad as Sr. It suits them.

+/- I lol'ed when Sr. announced that he wanted to stay at Tony's place, looked right at Ziva, and asked “He has room, doesn't he?” And did you see that killer glare Gibbs gave them over his coffee cup? What a great shot. I wasn't crazy over Ziva's reaction, though. She should've just said “I don't know” casually, or asked them why they were all staring at her.

+/- So the team's Christmas tradition is to all watch It's a Wonderful Life together. Very sweet that they're spending time together like that, but geez, of all the overrated Christmas movies.

+ I loved getting to see Tony's place. It was such a treat after getting to see McGee's place just last week in The Devil's Trifecta. A few little bits I especially loved: the huge collection of DVDs (of course!), the framed Chinatown poster, the single bed, and the pet goldfish.

+ Abby finger-printed all her relatives when she was a kid. Haha, of course she did.

+ I don't usually find Michael Wetherly super-sexy (after all, only Marion Cotillard could be super-sexy standing next to Cote de Pablo!) but how delicious were those shots of Tony stretching on the bullpen floor? Hot damn! Schenck & Cardea are good at having him do unusual stuff like this. And I loved the semi-concerned look Gibbs gave him when he walked in.

+ Gah, McGee helped Tony crack his back! Priceless! I also liked how Tony opened up to him about his problems with Sr.

- Sr. makes a mess of Tony's kitchen cooking snicker-doodles, and tells Tony to “get the Christmas spirit” when he complains. Geez, what an insufferable guy to have as your dad.

+ I loved the lighting and camera angles during the roadside scene where the team found Kennedy's body.

+ Ziva's black-and-white top in the second half of the episode. It was a different look for her and so flattering! She should wear that style more often.

+ Palmer making Christmas plans with Breena on the phone in autopsy. Sweet little touch.

+ I lol'ed at Ducky trying to bore Winter out of autopsy with one of his monologues. God loves you, Ducky! I just about hauled back and slapped Winter when she told him to “Cut the crap.”

+ “Even though I do not celebrate Christmas...” YES! I did a happy little dance when Ziva said that! It's not easy when a holiday you don't celebrate is constantly getting shoved down your throat (last year's Christmas episode Newborn King is a good example) so I really loved this little acknowledgement that not everyone celebrates Christmas. The writers seem to have remembered that Ziva's Jewish this season – probably in preparation for the upcoming arc with Eli, Shabbat Shalom and Shiva. Titles don't get more Jewish than that, do they? :) But I should probably reserve that smiley face for after I've seen the episodes. Damn, I hope they don't suck...

+ Although I'm not generally a fan of Sr. (he can be so... slimy) but I did like the scene of Sr. opening up to Ziva in the bullpen about his attempts to reconnect with Tony. It was touching and well-done, like the earlier Tony and McGee scene.

+ I loved McGee bumping into his old classmate at the dump, especially how much Tony was lovin' it when he found out McGee played the college mascot.

- “I'll have to burn the bed now.” Yeah, how did they both fit in that single bed...?

+ Tony standing up to his father. About time! Sr. was way out-of-line and so had that coming.

+ McGee snapping “So go get it” at Tony made me chuckle. Usually Tony is the one talking to him that way.

+/- For the most part, it was a solid episode, but I really wasn't crazy about that ending scene. It was a tad too sappy for me, and the team pushing/forcing Tony to forgive Sr. was borderline insulting. Until one of their dads has had sex in their bed with someone they tried to avoid, they have no business telling Tony how he should handle it.

NB: You Better Watch Out was the last new episode of 2012. The first was Housekeeping.

SIX DAYS MORE TILL LES MISERABLES!
Six days more
Another day, another destiny
This never-ending road to the movie
This film will surely be sublime, I'll go and see it fifty times
