Rebecca doesn't find this stuff amusing anymore.

So, tonight's new NCIS saw the return of DiNozzo Sr. (And next week's episode -- Enemies Foreign -- has Eli David! Damn, I hope the writers don't mess that one up.) Anyway, I had mixed feelings about this one. There were a lot of little moments that I loved, but the episode as a whole didn't do too much for me. I really didn't like how awkward and uncomfortable Tony was for much of it, and how the rest of the team found that so funny. *sigh* My notes are beneath the cut.

Episode 8x07 Broken Arrow
Featuring DiNozzo Sr., last seen in Flesh and Blood

Writers: George Schenck & Frank Cardea (Short Fuse).

+ Interesting opening -- I don't think we've ever found a dead victim by their ringtone before. NB: Iverson's ringtone was "Anchors Aweigh," the fight song of the US Naval Academy.

+ Ooh, that shot of Ziva's legs when she first stepped off the elevator. *drools* It's almost as if the writers heard what I said about wanting to see her legs in my notes on Short Fuse.

+ I awww'ed at Ziva getting excited over her new passport and McGee being happy for her. I love friendship moments between those two.

+ I lol'ed at the guys pulling rank on Ziva when one of them had to dig through the garbage. The way they smiled at each other there was priceless.

+ Oh my goodness, Gibbs straightening Ducky's bowtie at the crime scene had to be one of the cutest things I've ever seen! I also loved his reaction when McGee interrupted him. God loves Ducky!

+ McGee's expression when he saw DiNozzo Sr.'s name on the plane manifest. There were a lot of funny faces in this episode.

+ I don't ship Tiva, but I liked how concerned Ziva seemed for Tony when he left to find his dad, and how Gibbs made her go with him. (And he called her Ziver! I love it when he does that.)

+ Sr.'s expression when he saw Tony at the bus stop. He looked a little horrified.

- "Gibbs and his team can definitely handle it." What a badly-delivered line.

+/- McGee, Ziva, and Abby trying to convince Sr. to stay longer. I was in two minds about this because they knew Tony wasn't comfortable having his dad around, and they did hope to find out some embarrassing things about Tony from Sr. That was kinda mean. But I also like to believe that they wanted him to stay because they hoped the relationship between father and son could be mended.

- Gibbs lol'ing at Tony's pain when he told him they needed Sr. to stay and help them with the operation.

- Abby insisting that Tony should try to reconcile with Sr. I know she means well, but it was really not fair of her to compare her father and Tony's. Just because you would forgive your father doesn't mean that Tony has to forgive his, Abby. She can be so childish sometimes. I liked that McGee stuck up for Tony (he was the only one who did) and reminded Abby that Sr. wasn't the world's best dad.

+ "Have you two ever been honest with each other?" Thank you, Gibbs, for calling Sr. out on this.

- Sr. came off as very smarmy when he was trying to befriend Gibbs.

+ Tony's imitation of his dad's voice! It was hilarious and spot-on!

- Sr. really started to grate on my nerves after he realized that the team needed him to get into the party. I guess it was supposed to be funny that he was wasting government funds on his hotel room, etc., but it didn't work for me. And annoucing that he was going to "make his move" on Ziva? Barf.

+ Gibbs and Ziva doing detective work in the bullpen just before her date with Sr.

+ McGee enjoying his Nutter Butter so loudly and obnoxiously when he was in the van with Tony. I think we all have guilty-pleasure foods we like to eat this way.

- Sr. is a perverted old man, so I had expected him to paw at Ziva at some point during their date, but it was the guys' reactions to it that really rubbed me the wrong way. Ugh.

+ Such an intense moment when Bayar recognized Ziva for who she really was. Although the real reason the writers did this was to jog our memories about Ziva's father, since we're going to see him again soon.

+ Ziva taking down Bayar in her evening dress. Damn, I love that woman.

- The ending was really too over-the-top for me. The writers seem to think that just by pulling out that photo, Sr. can make up for all those years of being a terrible dad. It was also completely out-of-sync with how he's treated Tony so far -- he hasn't been involved in his son's life for years, but he has been carrying around a photo of them together during happier times? The writers obivously just wanted to stick a big band-aid on their relationship rather than address what's really wrong with it.
