rebecca_in_blue: (G-d loves a duck)

My notes for tonight's episode are (by far) my longest yet. At first, I figured it was because I watched it on the laptop (I had to work tonight, so I missed seeing it "live") and so I was able to type notes as I watched, rather than relying on my memory. But on second thought, I think it was just because tonight's episode was really, really good. Kew agrees.

Fake suicides, fake names, women pretending to be men: A list of things to love about episode 9x04 Enemy on the Hill

Writers: George Schenck & Frank Cardea (Dead Reflection).

+ Intense beginning! Usually we only see how the dead body is found, but this time we got to see the guy die.

- One thing I didn't like: Abby announcing to the team that she was donating a kidney. The dialogue felt really clunky to me there. But I did like the mention that Abby goes to church.

+ Sportelli briefing the team on the suspect, Tony's little digs at Sportelli, and Ziva sitting on Gibbs's desk (sweet little touch). Remember when he told Borin "butt off" when she sat on his desk back in Ships in the Night? But he lets Ziva sit on it. :) You can sit on my desk anytime, Cote de Pablo!

+ Abby's skull purse and Ducky rambling on about his toy trains in the first autopsy scene.

+ Tony pacing off the garage. Some writers tend to cast Tony as more of a stupid, goofy sidekick, and at first, that's what it looked like in this scene. But then they reveal that he's actually busy being a competent detective.

Brett, Ziva, and Gibbs in the bullpen.

+ The Tony and McGee interaction throughout. You can always count on Schenck & Cardea for good Tony/McGee dialogue, and for getting McGee out from behind his desk. The guys had some good scenes together while Ziva was off tailing Brett. Especially, "Because I learned from the best" and "While angling for his plumb assignment on the hill?"

+++ Kaplan's landlady, especially the horrified look on the guys' faces when she tried to hit on Gibbs. This had to be my favorite scene! She was hilarious!

- Ziva breaking protocol and letting Brett get away reminded me a lot of McGee breaking protocol and letting Adriana get away in Defiance. And this has happened before on this show, too. You'd really think the team would know better by now.

-/+ Ooh, a scene between Gibbs and Abby where he didn't kiss her. It reminded of that scene in Dead Reflection where Gibbs didn't head-smack Tony. Both had something missing.

+ The freeze-frame of Tony's eyes peering through the mail slot. Very unique shot.

- "She did not kill herself." - "How can you tell?" Um, maybe because he's a medical examiner, you idiot!

+ Tony bouncing around after drinking too much coffee.

+ Ziva calling Tony "sweetheart" on the phone. I bet the Tiva shippers will love this, even though she only did it to avoid arousing suspicion. Another nice little touch.

+ Gibbs offering to come with Abby to meet her brother. So sweet.

+ Gibbs spends his evenings drinking tea and reading? Heh, he's turning into his dad! But why does he apparently sleep on his couch?

-/+ I'm not sure how I feel about the revelation at the end. A lot will depend on where the writers decide to take this in future episodes. But I loved Gibbs telling Abby, "You have a family." That is exactly what the team is to each other.  ♥ ♥

FF: I wrote a tag to this episode in Those Who Favor Fire: Chapter 1.

As much as I like the serious, angsty stuff once in a while, I wish all episodes could make me laugh like this one did. :)
